Dear Friends,
As you all know, Momentum does not pester its supporters by sending out constant
requests for contributions. We ask only once a year, or in specific rare cases when we
really need help. This season we really need your help and hope that you will respond even
if you never have before.
As you may know, during the most recent legislative session, Florida legislature
reduced funding for arts and culture in Florida by 14%! This shocking development is very
recent, but quite alarming for not only Momentum, but for all arts groups in the state.
Momentum lost over $12,000 in direct grant funding. Additionally many organizations that
present Momentum such as community concert associations, schools, colleges and
universities and arts centers have lost funding as well and will not be able to hire us
this year. This has been a devastating loss to us and to our colleagues.
We are working hard to continue to bring you, our audience, the kind of quality
programs you have come to expect. These include our major concert seasons and premieres of
new works, special free and low price concerts for children and families, our educational
residencies at R. R. Moton Elementary School and South Miami Middle School, and our
international cultural exchange program with the Bahamas, as well as dozens of other
performances in schools and at community festivals and events.
Please help us to offset this terrible loss by making a contribution this year and
giving what you can personally afford to give. No contribution is too small - or too
large! Even $30 pays for one pair of dance shoes or a leotard. $100 covers our website and
online ticketing expenses for a month. $1,000 pays for a children's concert, and $15,000
pays for an entire concert evening. We won't be able to do it without you! A contribution
