ARTISTIC DIRECTOR DELMA ILES
Delma Iles is the founder and
Artistic Director of Momentum Dance Company, which has just concluded its 25th
Anniversary Season. She has created over 50 original dance works for Momentum and has also
created works for the Florida Grand Opera, Pensacola Ballet, the Tallahassee Ballet,
Ballet Concerto, the Bristol Concert Ballet Company and many others. She previously danced
with the Cincinnati Ballet, the Atlanta Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, and Fusion
Dance Company. She holds a B.A. in Teaching of Ballet from Virginia Intermont College and
an M.F.A. in Dance from New York University. She has twice been awarded Florida Artist
Fellowships in Dance as well as a Rotary Foundation Fellowship for international study,
and numerous other grants and awards. She was the choreographer for a team that won an
Emmy Award for Children's Programming for the Coconut Grove Cildren's Theater's production
of "The Me Nobody Knows". She has also served as President, and subsequently
Executive Director, of the Childrens Cultural Coalition of South Florida, where she
produced educational arts programs in all arts disciplines for children, education
oriented arts publications, and provided resources and development programs for artists
who work with children. She currently teaches dance at Miami Dade College, Wolfson and
Kendall Campuses and acts as a dance and arts consultant for the Institute for Latin
American and Caribbean Studies at Florida International University. She serves on the
Board of Directors of the Dade Cultural Alliance, and has previously served on the Boards
of Arts For A Complete Education, the Florida Dance Association, the Dance Umbrella of
Greater Miami, and the Childrens Cultural Coalition. Her recent honors and awards
include: the Phi Theta Kappa Award for excellence in teaching awarded by the students at
MDC Wolfson Campus, and the Doris Leeper Award for outstanding contributions to arts
education in Florida awarded by the statewide arts advocacy group Arts for A Complete
Education. She was selected this year by the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts to
participate in the Miami Made process for artists.
